2019-01-16 · I recently bought a Serek bass that uses 2 single coil pickups set right up against each other, with a 4-way rotary for bridge / neck / humbucking parallel / humbucking series. Having played a P Bass exclusively for years, I hoped the Serek would have a tonal option resembling a P, as something to fall back on.
The only bass I ever owned with a pickup cover was a Rick 4001. I was OK with the bridge pickup cover on that (the bridge pickup on a Rick is in a completely different place than it is on a Fender). Part of that may have been not knowing anything different, but part of it is also that it's easy to find decent places to play on either side of Lindy Fralin P Bass normal wind - a perfect P bass sound. The main difference I notice between the SPB-1 and Fralin normal wound pickups is the SPB-1 has slightly less lows with more highs, the upper mids are brighter.
